Lotter to Foreign Office

Reference President Truman's reply No. 6 to the Prime Minister concerning the surrender of Hong Kong, I attach a copy of a message (C.0.S. (W) 69) which the Chiefs of Staff are addressing to the American Chiefs of Staff.

2. It is suggested that the Foreign Office should now inform H.M. imbassador in Chungking, for the information

of the Chinose, of tho assurance which the British Chiefs of Staff have given regarding assistance and support to Chinese and American forces through the Hong Kong area.

3. It is to be hoped that General Wedemeyer will now receive satisfactory instructions on this matter from Washington.
